Allen Curtis Holland

Allen C. Holland, born on October 6, 1955, in Bedford, Virginia, passed away surrounded by loved ones. He was the cherished son of the late Olivia and Curtis Holland and the beloved brother to four sisters, making him the only son in a family of five children.

From a young age, Allen exhibited a thirst for knowledge, often spending his free time watching movies and reading encyclopedias and dictionaries from cover to cover. His playful spirit was evident in his love for pranks, especially on his sisters.

Allen was a proud graduate of Wakefield High School in Arlington, class of 1974. His unwavering dedication and loyalty defined his remarkable 35-year career at Arlington Hospital, now known as Virginia Hospital Center. Remarkably, he never took a day off during his tenure. His commitment to patient care earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and the community, leaving a lasting impact through his selfless spirit and compassion.

An avid sports fan, Allen especially enjoyed football and baseball, cheering for the Chicago Bears and the Washington Nationals. He was a devoted supporter of the Alexandria Dukes and attended their games until the team relocated. While he followed Washington Commanders games, he was quick to clarify that he was not a fan. His love for college football and basketball was equally passionate, and he often volunteered at local high school and middle school games, as well as at area food banks.

Allen’s unwavering love for family shone brightly in his role as a devoted brother and uncle. His nieces and nephews adored him, cherishing the unique gifts he would give, including special fifty-cent pieces and two-dollar bills.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Olivia and Curtis Holland. Allen leaves behind his four sisters: Gail, Phyllis (Frank), Cheryl, and Terri; five nieces: Traci (Robert), Crystal, Natasha, Chavon, and Courtney; one nephew, Kevin; five great-nephews; many cousins, especially his dedicated cousin Evelyn Smith; and numerous friends.

Allen C. Holland will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the indelible impressions he left on everyone he met.
