Audrey M. Love, 94, passed away peacefully in her home September 26, 2017. Born on September 10, 1923 in Boston Massachusetts, her father, Alexander Hogan, was unemployed during the Great Depression and later found work in Washington, DC at the Government Printing Office. She obtained a degree in Biology at Trinity College in Washington, DC.

 

After World War II, she supervised 20 people at the Food and Drug Administration’s Sterility Lab as a microbiologist. She left to become a full time homemaker. Upon the death of her father in 1953, her mother, J. Madeline Collins Hogan and her brother Bill lived with her family for four years. Her husband, James W. Love, passed away in 1963, leaving her with eight children between the ages of one and 13. Her two brothers and brother-in-law provided her financial support for 10 years. She returned to FDA in 1973 and worked there until her retirement at the age of 73. After retirement, Audrey served as a Eucharistic Minister for St. Louis Catholic Church for nine years.

In addition to her late husband, she was preceded in death by her children, James E. Love, Daniel J. Love, and Mary G. Love Aitken, her granddaughters Mary Jennifer Love and Rebecca E. Love, and her brother, former Congressman and Prince Georges County Executive Lawrence J. Hogan, Sr. She is survived by her children Catherine Love, William A. Love, Mark Christopher Love, Carol G. Love, Paul A. Love, her sister, Mary O’Connell, her brother, William J. Hogan, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. A graveside service will be held at Mount Comfort Cemetery, Alexandria VA on September 29 at 2 pm, and a memorial Mass will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church, Alexandria, VA on Saturday September 30 at 3 pm.
