Barbara Ann Lippin, of Alexandria, VA passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at the age of 72. A devoted wife, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and friend to all she met. Barbara was born to John and Helen Drozd in Plainfield, NJ, the third of three children. Barbara graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1972 in the first class of women to attend the university. She spent her early years as a social worker. She married Jonathan Lippin in 1981 and became a mother soon thereafter, igniting a passion for children and childhood development that would endure throughout her life as a devoted mother, wife and grandmother.
Barbara had an adventurous spirit and had the opportunities to live in communities domestic and abroad, including New Jersey, Arizona, Shanghai, China, London, England, Florida, New York City, and finally, Alexandria, VA. Barbara immersed herself in the beauty of nature as well as social and cultural activities in each place she lived. She spent the last nine years of her life as an active member of the community at Alexandria House with many friends. She was an avid reader and member of book clubs on multiple continents. She loved the arts, spent time in museums around the world and served as a docent at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.
In 2017, Barbara became a grandmother and was soon dubbed “Yoma” (young grandma). Barb managed daytime activities for the DC based grandchildren from an early age. She invested tremendous energy to infuse a love of learning, crafts, science, play and books with all of the grandkids. She delighted in being with her grandkids who gave her enjoyment and energy which carried over into all of her time.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Jonathan Lippin, her children David Lippin and Andrea Lippin, three grandchildren Linnea Lippin, Rebecca Parent, and Lillian Parent,her brother Douglas Drozd, and sister Judy Sutton.
The memorial service was held at Alexandria House in Alexandria, VA on March 30, 2025 with members of the family and shiva held throughout the week of March 31, 2025
