Benjamin S. Konopka, 67, of Alexandria, VA died suddenly May 11, 2017. Born in Scranton, PA on February 14, 1950, he was the son of the late Dr. Benjamin S. and Eleanor Lukowski Konopka. He is survived by his siblings: Ludwig A. Konopka of Mesa, AZ; Barbara A. Konopka of Scranton, PA; Catherine M. Senecal Nicholas of Boston, MA; and Constance E. Downie Jon of Auburn, ME. He leaves a beloved Aunt Florence Markowski of Scranton, PA as well as his nieces and nephews, Dr. Nicole Cooper Dr. Maxwell of PA; Carl Joseph Senecal, MA; and Dr. Alfred Konopka Bachiller, NY. Ben received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree from Villanova University in 1972. He was a member of the class of 1968 of Scranton Preparatory High School. Ben was on active duty for the Navy from 1972 -1981. From 1982 Ben served in the Naval Reserves where he achieved the rank of Commander. His last job was as Facilities Support Contract Program Manager in the Maintenance/Facilities Services Division/Command in Washington, DC. He retired in 2013.Calling hours will be held on Monday May 22, 2017 from 7:00-9:00 PM at the Cunningham Turch Funeral Home, 811 Cameron Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday May 23, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8710 Mt. Vernon Highway, Alexandria, VA 22309. A pre-mass reception will be held at 10:00 AM at the church. Burial will be on a future date in the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, PA.
