Brian D. McCarty
October 27, 1954 – November 17, 2019
Brian McCarty, age 65, was called to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 17, 2019. He is survived by his loving family Cindy (Hansen), wife of 39 years. Sons Scott (Ashley) and Craig (Kristen) McCarty. Brother Kevin (Mary) McCarty. Sister Kathy (Vern) Hedden. He was a wonderful PaPa to grand-daughters Maddison, Samantha, and Caroline with a grandson due in April. He is also survived by brother-in-law Greg (Jean) Hansen, sister-in-law Terri (Mike) Gilbert and was a beloved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Cindy Cronkite.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Donald McCarty and Alice (Eural) Williams. He graduated from Rose Hulman Institue of Technology and the University of Cincinnati. He was honored as one of Rose Hulmans top 100 young graduates in 1995. He entered the Air Force through a Direct Commission Appointee in 1979 as a Bioenvironmental Engineer. He was a graduate of the Air War College and Air Command and Staff College. Brian served his country with 23 years of active duty service in the Air Force earning numerous awards including the Legion of Merit (LOM). He retired as Colonel in 2002 and entered Civilian Service. His most recent position was Deputy Director of Research and Acquisitions and Chair Medical Modernization Panel, Office of the United States Air Force Surgeon General. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church for
the past 20 years.
Visitation will be Monday, November 25th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cunningham Turch Funeral Home; 811 Cameron St. Alexandria, VA 22314. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM officiated by Pastor Andrew Jagow of Bethany Lutheran Church. Street parking will be available in addition to garage parking within walking distance. A church service followed by a burial at Arlington National Cemetery will be set at a future date.
