Bruce Haven McCullough, aged 80, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed peacefully on November 15, 2024, at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends during his final days.
He was born on September 29, 1944, to the late Carlos and June McCullough. He was the brother of Eric; Carlos, Jr.; Dianna; and the late Sandy. He grew up in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, where he enjoyed getting into mischief with his siblings, shooting homemade movies with his friends, and cheating at horseshoes. Later in life, he had the best roommates ever on Commonwealth Avenue (Beth, Dee, Juan, and Worm); they remained close friends until his passing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, JoAnn McCullough (née Starkey); their four children Tammy Walker (Boyd), Tesha Carter (Lonie), Samantha McCullough, and Kyle McCullough; and grandchildren Lea Cooke (Casey), Morgan Chastine, Brittany “Goose” Daniels, and Garrett Daniels.
He spent most of his career working as a courier for FedEx in Washington, D.C., until his retirement in 2005. He was well known and loved at his job and often took his children for Sunday morning drives on his route. Before FedEx, he worked at Fruit Growers Express, where he also made lifelong friends.
He loved fishing; golfing; family trips to Ocean City, Maryland; watching baseball and football (he was a die-hard Orioles and Commanders fan); and sending silly texts from his ancient flip phone. He never knew a stranger, never had an enemy, and made every person he encountered laugh like no other.
There is no funeral service scheduled, but the family plans on holding a celebration of life party in the future. Like Bruce, it will be a blast.
