Catherine “Cathy” Freso transitioned to her heavenly home on March 27, 2025 in her hometown of Alexandria VA, after a battle with cancer.
Born on February 28,1966 in Alexandria, Cathy was the youngest of four siblings born to Marlene Humphrey and William Humphrey. During grade school, Cathy’s family moved to Reston, Va where she met her husband of 38 years Michael Freso “Mike”.
Cathy and Mike established their lives together and married in 1987 shortly after the birth of their first child, a son, Michael Freso Jr. They later welcomed their daughter Carrianna Freso in 1993. From then on, the family was complete until Cathy welcomed her three-year-old nephew in 2012 who she loved and raised as her youngest son Timmy Humphrey Jr.
Cathy was a devoted wife, selfless mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and so much more; that is what she did best love her people. Cathy would help anyone any way she could and always showed unwavering support and loyalty to her loved ones. She always instilled in her children that FAMILY is everything, and real friends were considered family too. Outside of family, Cathy loved spending time with friends at the park and pool, playing bingo, and the family tradition of playing Yahtzee. At Cathy’s house, everyone was welcomed, and people would often pop in to grab something to eat and make themselves comfortable. Cathy’s true happiness was seeing the people around her happy.
Cathy was welcomed at the gates of heaven by her son Michael Freso Jr, her brother Ken Humphrey, her mother Marlene Humphrey, her father William Humphrey and numerous other family and friends. Sadly, Cathy leaves behind her husband Michael Freso, daughter Carrianna Freso, nephew/son Timmy Humphrey Jr, sister Theresa Adams, brother Stephen Humphrey and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends that will forever miss her but go on to honor her life.
Cathy touched so many people around her throughout her life and displayed so much strength and resilience through her many battles in life. She never judged anyone and was always the most encouraging and supportive person. May Cathy rest in peace and live on in our hearts forever.
The family welcomes everyone to celebrate the life of Cathy this Friday April 11th at Cunningham Turch Funeral Home, 811 Cameron Street Alexandria, VA 22314. The viewing is from 10am-1pm with a service to follow from 1pm-2pm."
