Darrell Andrew Slaughter, 64, of Selma, Alabama, passed away on December 27, 2023. Born and raised in Selma, Alabama. Darrell was a proud graduate of Selma High School, Class of 1977. He pursued higher education at Alabama A&M University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Management in 1984. During his time in Huntsville, AL, he became a cherished member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. He furthered his education by obtaining an Associate of Arts from Los Angeles Metropolitan College in 1991 and a Master of Science in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, in 1994.

A retired Army Major, Darrell dedicated 25 years of his life to serving his country with distinction. Following his military career, he continued his commitment to service as a government contractor and settled in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Darrell was the beloved son of the late Rozie Lee and Elouise Slaughter of Selma, Alabama. He is survived by his loving children: Shantrice Slaughter of Montgomery, Alabama; Sherwin E. Slaughter (Renae) of White Plains, Maryland; Darrius Slaughter of Selma, Alabama; and Kiersten A. J. Scott of Maryland. He was the proud grandfather of Teigen Woods.

He is also survived by his siblings: Rozilyn L. Johnson (Cornelius) of Selma, AL; Rozie L. Slaughter (Mary Ellen) of Atlanta, GA; Ursula R. Slaughter of Gulfport, MS; Rupert O. Slaughter of Atlanta, GA; and Harriett W. Slaughter (Andre) of Loganville, GA. He will be dearly missed by his uncles, Edward Grayson (Hannah), Erwin Grayson (Lillian), and Willie Grayson (Barbara), and his aunt, Harriett Grayson Thomas. Darrell’s connection with his Uncle Erwin was unbreakable, he also shared a special bond with Dolores (Diane) Willis and Woodrow (Ricky) Johnson.

Darrell leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember him for his dedication, warmth, and unwavering love for his family.

Darrell's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Known for his accomplished career and disciplined, he possessed an ambitious and

persistent nature.

Darrell was a hard worker who always remained prepared for life's challenges.

His independent spirit and conservative values often set him apart,

making him different in a way that was both intriguing and admirable.

Despite his private and sometimes stubborn demeanor,

those close to him knew him as a loving and proud relative,

whose intelligence and sharp mind were matched only by

his deep sense of family and commitment.

Darrell's life was a testament to his strength of character

and unwavering dedication.
