David Kraftt Yancey, age 80, of Alexandria & Buckingham, passed away unexpectedly due to heart complications, on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, in Louisa County, VA. He was the youngest of 2 born to Thomas VanDervurse & Grace Katherine (Bender) Yancey and grew up in Alexandria.
He was very well-known in the Northern Virginia & Buckingham areas (perhaps others). He was a man of integrity, a man of his word. He was a hard worker, loved his family, friends, farming, firearms & freedom. For several years he participated in various aspects of New Orleans Mardi Gras, including riding on floats, attending banquets, assisting in the background, and more.
He retired from TJ Fannons after 45 ½ years. He delivered oil & serviced in HVAC. Before then, he worked as a mechanic, tow truck driver, volunteer first responder, and in other areas. He had a few hobbies including hunting & racing (in his younger days), etc., and usually had a story to tell for just about everything.
He leaves behind his daughter, Nadine & son-in-law Peter Grinnell; His grandson, Merlin Jason Yancey; 2 sisters-in-law, Jane (Stan) Kesler & family in Texas & Margie (Cary) Steele in Florida & their surviving son, Alan in Virginia; 2 nephews, Tom (Judy) & Sean (Bobbie) Delach & family; along with numerous cousins, friends, and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Nelda (Wood) Yancey; his father, Thomas; his mother, Grace; his sister, Sheila Hunter, his niece Wanda Kesler; his nephew John Steele; and several aunts, uncles & cousins.
Celebration of Life Services will begin on Thursday, May 4, 2023, from 6-8pm and at 11am on Friday, May 5, 2023, at Cunningham Turch Funeral Home, located at 811 Cameron St, Alexandria, VA 22314. Graveside Service will be at 2pm at Toms Brook Cemetery in Toms Brook, VA 22660.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to consider making donations to one (or each) of the following: The American Heart Association, The American Stroke Association, Conquer Chiari (i.e., C&S Patient Education Foundation).
