Dennis P. Bednar of Alexandria, Virginia passed away on September 5th, 2013. His passions included windsurfing, snowboarding, downhill skiing, music, and computer programming. Dennis was an active member of the Baltimore Area Boardsailing Association and Ski Club Washington, DC where he was loved by all. Dennis held a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Maryland and went on to work as a successful software engineer in the telecommunications industry for many years. He took immense pleasure in problem solving and learning new computer programming languages. He recently retired and was especially looking forward to spending his golden years with his beloved Sharon. Dennis is survived by, Sharon Godfrey, his domestic partner of 13 years. He is also survived by his brothers Rich Bednar of Johnson City, New York, Tom Bednar of Orlando, Florida, Anthony Bednar of Herndon, Virginia and his sister Diann Zeigler of Johnson City, New York. Dennis was preceded in death by his brother Ron Bednar and his parents Kathryn Bednar and Paul Bednar. Dennis will forever be remembered for his loyalty, sense of humor, inquisitiveness, and his high energy. He always had a smile on his face and a bounce in his step. He never turned down a cold beer or a hot pepper. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to noon at Cunningham Turch Funeral Home in Alexandria, Virginia on September 12th immediately followed by funeral services. Flowers and condolences may be sent to the Funeral Home at 811 Cameron Street, Alexandria, Virginia 22314. The family also encourages donations to be made in Dennis’ name to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.Following remembrance services, friends and family will proceed to the Primo Family Restaurant located at 1636 Belle View Boulevard, Alexandria, Virginia 22307, a place Dennis frequented often with his fellow Ski Club Washington, DC members after an evening of sailing.
