Edith Elvira Magel, 82, of Highland, Maryland, peacefully passed away on July 6, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones. Edith was born on December 4, 1938 to Antonio and Edith Rodriguez in Port-Aux-Prince, Haiti. She was a graduate of Sainte-Rose de Lima’s school for girls in Lalue. After graduation, she met, fell in love, and married Hans Magel.
Edith’s professional achievements included being a senior Auditor for Sears and Roebuck in a time when professional advancement was difficult for women; along with her husband, she also owned and operated Mack’s Hardware, a local icon in Rockville’s business community; and with her brother Antonio, and her mother, Edith, constructed Time Center in St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. Eventually, Hans and Edith retired to Fajardo, Puerto Rico where they spent a number of happy years together before returning to Maryland.
Edith’s greatest source of joy and pride was her family. Edith is survived by her daughters, Ingrid and Heidi; her brothers, Antonio and Enrique; her grandchildren Eric, Danielle, Michael, and Allen; her great grandchildren Lily, Bastien, Emma, and Willow; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A short graveside ceremony will be held on July 12 at Bethel Cemetery in Alexandria, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Supranuclear Palsy Foundation, https://www.psp.org/.
