Frances Albright Abner, 89, died peacefully at Mount Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Alexandria, VA Thursday, September 25, 2008. Born January 9, 1919 in Hedgesville, WV, Frances was the daughter of Roy V. Albright and Lexie M. Butts Albright. Frances was a graduate of Hedgesville High School and Shepherd College. During World War II she worked as a telephone operator for the War Department in Washington, D.C. After the war she remained in Washington and worked as a librarian at the Library of Congress. Frances married her husband of 46 years Frederick G. Abner, Jr. in April 1946 and moved to Alexandria. They had three children, David, Alan and Luanne. Frances worked as a kindergarten teacher at Marjorie Daw School for 9 years and later as a librarian at Martha Washington Library. She is survived by her brother Frank Albright, two sisters Eileen Walsh and Irene Hervatine, her sons David and Alan Abner, her daughter Luanne Abner, two granddaughters, three grandsons, two great granddaughters and two great grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband Frederick G. Abner, Jr. and her brother Victor Albright. Services and a reception will be held at 2:00 p.m. on September 30 at the Calvary Presbyterian Church, 6120 North Kings Highway, Alexandria, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058.
