Frances Witte of Alexandria, VA died Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from respiratory complications. Frances along with an identical twin sister Bette was born to Matthew and Frances Willard in Jackson, Michigan on January 1, 1923. She grew up in Jackson and graduated from Jackson High School in 1941. She later entered Nursing School and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1946. In 1947 she entered the U. S. Navy as a Nurse and was deployed to Japan during the Korean War. While in Japan, she met her future husband, Paul, also serving in Japan as a Naval Officer. They were married in Japan in 1951. Returning to the States, Frances continued in her nursing career as an Emergency Room Nurse at various hospitals in the Midwest as Paul was transferred and moved up the corporate ladder with PPG Industries. She retired from Nursing in 1980. Paul and Frances settled in Indianapolis, IN and remained there enjoying the friendship of many friends until 2006 when they moved to Alexandria to be close to family. Frances enjoyed swimming, golf, and bowling. She was a prolific afghan knitter, providing many warm comforters to family and friends. Frances’ husband Paul passed in January 2009. Her twin sister Bette passed in 2012. She is survived by her two sons, Michael and Steven and her daughter Patricia. The family will receive friends from 7pm to 8pm on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Cunningham Turch Funeral Home, 811 Cameron St. Alexandria, VA 22314. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the American Heart Association.
