Frederick Godwin Green also called Godwin, Fred, and Uncle Freddy by many, was born on April 26, 1939 in Washington, DC. He was the second of seven children born to Pearl Richardson and George Green raised in Arlington, Virginia. He graduated from Hoffman-Boston High School in 1957 and joined the U.S. Air Force. He received an honorable discharge after serving three years and was later employed by the U.S. Postal Service, from which he retired after 30 years. Most of his postal service career was spent as a mail carrier on Johnson’s Hill.Fred was a hard-working, sincere, friendly and respected man, loved by all who knew him. He was a faithful and dedicated son who willingly helped care for his father until he passed and did the same for his mother until his own health declined. He enjoyed stimulating conversation, good food especially sweets, reading, family, being outdoors, fishing, collecting antique furniture and was an avid lover of Jazz. Godwin leaves to cherish his memory, 104 year old mother Pearl Green, his son Errington Green Katrina, six siblings Ruth Annette Bilal John, Benson Green Betty, Lorraine Abdullah, Ni’mat “Betty” Shakoor, Yusuf “Lamarr” Shakoor and Linda Robertson George and a host of nieices, nephews friends, and neighbors. He is preceded in death by his two older brothers, Edward Green and James Green.
