“ To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens.”
– Ecclesiastes3:1

Gloria Ann Tucker-Acker, affectionately known as “Nana” “Aunt Gelilah”, “Gelilah” and “Tucker”, born May 12, 1942, in Alexandria, VA, to the late James Shaw Sr. and Edith Howell. She peacefully departed this life with her family by her side on June 8, 2023.

Gloria accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young woman. On July 9, 1967, at the age of 25, she was baptized and joined the Third Baptist Church in Alexandria VA, under the pastorate of the late Reverend Joseph E. Penn. While at Third Baptist she served on the Usher Ministry and later joined the Ecumenical Chorus of Northern Virginia.

Gloria attended Parker Gray High School in Alexandria VA.

Gloria, was a dedicated and beloved school bus driver and trainer for the Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS). She worked with ACPS, for 24 years before retiring in 2007. Upon retirement she relocated to her home in Greenville SC for a quieter, slower pace. Upon relocating to Greenville SC, she joined and became an active member of the Rock Hill Baptist Church II, serving on the hospitality ministry. Gloria enjoyed sitting on her front porch, spending quality time, sharing her life stories with family and friends, crocheting, sipping on her coffee, working in her yard, and feeding her stray fur babies. She was always willing to help people, even when she did not have it to give. Gloria would later return to her home in Alexandria, VA.

If you knew Gloria, you knew she was never too far from a crochet needle, one of her favorite hobbies was crocheting. All her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family members and close friends have a one-of-a-kind piece of art because of her efforts. She always says if she could combine all the crochet blankets she’s ever made, she could circle the world twice.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Four children, Three daughters: Yvette Scott, Gloria Elaine Wallace, Tonia Scott (Welton); One son: Walter Timothy Francis (Carol); Three sisters: Lavinia (Lou) Francis, Audrey Smith (Hugh) and Shirley A Shaw; One brother: Gerald Howell; Six grandchildren: Tamika Scott, Jeremy Wallace (Brenda); Erick Brandon Carter; Laura Wallace, Joshua Wallace and Faye Green (Xavier); Eleven great grandchildren: Raina Brown-Wallace, Tiana Cooke, Jaylen Brown-Wallace, Jeremih Brown-Wallace; K’ssyah Kirkley Araujok, Josiah and Julissa Wallace, Xavier Jr., Caleb, Easton, and Oaklyn Aalivia Green; Two sister in laws: Eloise and Mary Howell; One daughter in law: Carol Francis.
