On the morning of July 30th 2023, Gwynne Ellen O’Reagan, age 61, passed away to be with the Lord. Born to Robert Thomas and Mary Patricia on November 6, 1962, Gwynne enjoyed a lifelong career with the Federal Government as a writer and editor, in her last years with the National Transportation Safety Board, Office of Highway Safety.

Gwynne lived in Alexandria with her immediate family since the 1980s. Her brother, his wife and children live in Bethesda. Her extended family was close but hailed from Kansas, Arizona, Massachusetts, Maryland and Virginia. They will miss her for her family involvement, stoicism, and ready laugh.

Known for her humor, sharp wit and observation of the absurd, Gwynne will be most remembered however for her kindness and thoughtfulness. She had a lifelong love for animals and supported many causes. She was an ardent student of European history. She loved Greek mythology and architecture and had a remarkable recall of all aspects of the British monarchy. She enjoyed ghost tours, European trips with her family and walking the beaches of the Outer Banks.

Services will be at the Basilica of St. Mary at 310 Royal St, Alexandria Virginia at 10:30 am on August 8, 2023. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria are appreciated. (Alexandria Animals.org 4101 Eisenhower Avenue Alexandria, Virginia 22304 703-746-4774):
