The Life, Legacy, and Love of
Jacquelyn Charlene Barksdale

When It Began:
JACQUEOLYN CHARLENE BARKSDALE WAS BORN OCTOBER 12, 1961, IN CHARLES COUNTY, MARYLAND TO CAROLYN ELIZABETH MACK AND CHARLES EUGENE BRANSON.

As She Grew:
JACQUEOLYN, KNOWN AS JACKIE, WAS RAISED IN WASHINGTON D.C. ALONG WITH HER THREE SISTERS, GWENDOLYN, SHAROLYN AND MARCIA. SHE WAS EDUCATED THROUGH DC PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND GRADUATED FROM MCKINLEY
TECHNOLOGY HIGH SCHOOL IN 1979. JACKIE LOVED PLAYING VOLLEYBALL, SOFTBALL AND WAS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE ROTC TEAM. SHE ATTENDED BOWIE STATE UNIVERSITY AND OBTAINED HER ASSOCIATE DEGREE. SHE THEN ENLISTED IN THE ARMY AS A CHAPLAINS ASSISTANT.

In Her Early Adult Years:
JACKIE LOVED TO TRAVEL AND COLLECT MAGNETS AND KEYCHAINS FROM EACH PLACE SHE VISITED. TO KNOW JACKIE WAS TO KNOW SHE HAD A HEART OF GOLD. JACKIE WAS ALWAYS LOOKING AFTER HER FAMILY AND CLOSE
FRIENDS. ONCE SHE TOOK YOU UNDER HER WING, YOU WERE FAMILY.

In Her Mid-Adult Years:
JACKIE HAD HER FIRST CHILD, DARREN, IN 1988 AND THEN HER SECOND, KIMBERLYN, IN 1994. SHE RAISED HER TWO CHILDREN WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT. THEY SETTLED IN NORTHEAST DC WITH HER MOTHER, CAROLYN ON PERRY STREET. SHE ALWAYS HAD THEM IN ACTIVITIES ON THE WEEKEND. THERE WAS NO LAYING AROUND. JACKIE HAD DARREN IN FOOTBALL, MUSIC, ART, AND FRENCH AND KIMBERLYN IN DANCE, CHEERLEADING, AND SOFTBALL. SHE WAS INCREDIBLY SUPPORTIVE OF HER CHILDREN.

The Golden Years:
AFTER SENDING BOTH OF HER CHILDREN OFF TO COLLEGE, JACKIE CONTINUED TO WORK AND WAS EMPLOYED AS A FEDERAL EMPLOYEE FOR OVER 35 YEARS. SHE WENT BY MANY NAMES, BUT HER FAVORITE NAME WAS MIMI. HER CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN WERE HERE PRIDE AND JOY.
