Capt. James Patrick Toscano, US Navy Ret. 56, died peacefully onNovember 13, 2011 at Capital Caring Hospice in Arlington following a long battle with cancer. He was devoted to his loving family, and is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Michael and Cara; and six brothers and sisters, Bill, Flo, Margie, Eileen, Cathy, and John. Following a twenty-seven year career in the US Navy in which he rose to the rank of Captain, he earned his J.D. from Catholic University and served as Chief Legal Counsel for the Child and Family Services Agency in Washington DC’s Office of the Attorney General, and mostrecently as Regional Program Manager in the San Francisco office of the Children?s Bureau of the US Department of Health and Human Services. James lived a life dedicated to service, not only to his country, but also to his family, and, through his legal career, to the welfare of underprivileged children. He was known for his generosity, courage, wit, and sense of humor. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched. Visitation will beat Cunningham Funeral Home, 811 Cameron St. Alexandria, VA, from5:00pm-9:00pm on Wednesday November 23. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Lawrence Church, 6222 Franconia Road, Alexandria, VA, at 11:00am Friday November 25.
