She is predeceased by her parents, Douglas and June Baker, her devoted older brother, Bill Baker, and her brother-in-law James Colvin. Kim is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Patrick Owens, sister Laura Butler, and brother Jeff Baker. Kim was the
most awesome Aunt to nieces Jessica Jenkins, Ginger Wilson, and Valentina Baker; great nieces Jorden, Aeila, Chloe, and Jolie; nephews James W.S. Colvin and Douglas Baker and great nephew Reese; her brothers-in-law Bill and Kenneth Owens and their families; and her nieces’ and nephew’s step mother, Gail Colvin. Kim also leaves behind her very supportive crew of lifetime friends; Paulina Bolton, Morag Whitehead, Joan Berler, Susan Shaheen, Stephanie Bates, and Barb Jones.
Kim was born in Pennsylvania, started school in Boston, and eventually moved with her family to Alexandria. Because of her father’s career with Hilton Hotels, Kim spent her early childhood as a real life Eloise, growing up in Hilton Hotels all over the country.
Kim attended Alexandria public schools and graduated from T.C. Williams, class of 1979. She met and married her childhood sweetheart, Pat, at Hammond High School, and married in 1982. She and Pat renewed their vows in 1992 in a ceremony that was one of her fondest memories and the topic of one of her last conversations with loved ones.
Kim spent her career as a federal employee working for the United States Treasury’s Internal Revenue Service and then the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Section (FinCEN). She retired from FinCEN in 2015. She was an essential part of the federal government’s crack team of analysts that tracked the movements of money that lead to the capture of terrorists and the demise of their financial operations.
Kim and her brother Billy were season ticket holders and enthusiastic supporters of the Washington Capitals and the Rock Band Yes, traveling to concerts all over the Eastern Seaboard. Kim enjoyed travel and fine dining with her husband Pat and their high school buddies, and being a very active Aunt in the lives of her nieces and nephews.
