Celebration of Life for Leonious “Leon” Walter Plummer

Leonious Walter Plummer was born to the late Jacob and Sophie Plummer on December 13, 1928 in South Miami, Florida.
As a child Leon enjoyed playing softball and baseball, often while drinking an ice-cold Coca-Cola. He was educated in Miami-Dade public schools immersing himself deeply in his academics. After graduating high school Leon joined the United States Military, during the end of World War II, he was deployed to Germany.
After serving his term with the military Leon relocated to Washington, DC to further his education. He attended Howard University graduating with a Bachelor’s degree. While living in DC he met the love of his life, Louise, while attending a gathering at his friend Sophie’s house, who happened to be Louise’s cousin. Leon and Louise married and from their union they have 2 children Marcel and Patrick.
Leon continued his education, attending Howard University for the second time, obtaining a Master’s Degree to further his management career. In 1973, Leon and his family relocated to Lincolnia, Virginia.
He worked in many branches of the government, retiring at the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration. After retirement, Leon joined a local softball team and kept active by working around
the house, watching football, basketball, and the world news.
Leon continued to educate himself all through his life by reading his large collection of books. Leon loved music and playing his albums on his stereo system, especially Jazz and Soul. Leon could have an intellectual conversation with the “best of them”; he had an extensive vocabulary. Additionally, he was tri-lingual learning German and French during his school years. Leon and one other classmate were the last living of their high school class; he kept in touch with him throughout the years.
He leaves many loved ones to cherish his memory, his sons Marcel (Sarah) and Patrick, stepdaughters Terrise (Hendley) and Barbara (Autry); nephews Lindsey (Barbara) and Craig; nieces Jane; Flora; Michelle (Charles); and Lavette; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 5 great- great grandchildren; and a host of loving family. Proceeding him in death his wife Louise; sister Alberta (Stephens); brother Morris and sister-in-law Cassie; stepson Antonio (Hendley); son-in-law William (Autry); and great-grandson Ronald (Royal).
