Linda K Sycks Whitmeyer, 78, of Alexandria, Virginia went home to be with Christ on January 23, 2023, after a courageous battle with Cancer. She was born April 5, 1944 in Coshocton Ohio to Howard and Blanche Sycks.

Linda graduated from Coshocton High School in 1962. After attending West Liberty University in West Virginia, she made stops in Columbus OH, and Boston, MA before settling in Washington DC in 1972. There she met the love of her life, Richard “Woody” Whitmeyer, whom she married in 1974.

Linda was an “auntie” to so many in her life. She adored her visits and time with her many nieces and nephews, often showing them off in Olde Towne Alexandria or traveling to see them wherever they lived. Many who knew Linda have recalled stories of her vibrant and colorful life, her infectious laughs, her beautiful smile, and most of all; her passion for her dogs. Linda could be found traveling across-country in her mini-van to pick up a rescue dog or organizing an overnight search for a local lost pup, even using her night-vision goggles. Linda knew all the dogs in her neighborhood and through that, got to know their owners and became friends with them as well. She was a woman of deep faith, with her dog-eared daily devotional being held together by paper clips from her continual prayer readings. She was an active member at the Arlington Metaphysical Chapel.

Linda spent many years working as an accountant consultant for the US Government. Her profound organizational skills and keen intellect earned her the highest level of trust and regard by her coworkers and employers.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents Howard and Blanche Sycks, husband Woody, Brother Jerry Sycks, Nephew Andrew Sycks, Great Nephews Mark Hale and David Gonter, Jr., and Great Niece Sydney Dobbs. She is survived by Brother Jim (Sandra) Sycks, Sister in Law Martha Sycks, stepson Jay Whitmeyer, several cousins, and many nieces and nephews that she treated like her own children. In addition, she had many friends and neighbors at the Fort Ellsworth Condo community in Alexandria and dear friends Nancy Carr, Barbara (Rehard) Dedics, and Rachel Wheelock.

Celebration of life ceremonies will be held on Saturday April 1st in Alexandria, VA as well as an internment memorial service in Coshocton, OH at a later date. Details to both will be posted on social media.
