Lynn Laverentz, 82, of Washington, DC passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, March 28, 2025. She was born in Wichita, KS on December 3rd, 1942. At the age of 4, she was adopted by her beloved parents, Roy Laverentz, a carpenter, and Ruby Laverentz, a nurse and homemaker. Lynn was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brother, Gene Laverentz, and her pets, Stacy Cat and Putter.
She is survived by her niece, Christina Laverentz, whom she fostered and adopted; her Goddaughter, Rachel George; and her dear friend, Sue Beatty.
Lynn lived with her family in Kansas and Phoenix, AZ before her keen interest in politics drew her to the nation’s capital. After graduating from Derby High School and gaining experience in several fields, including banking and paralegal work, she found her calling as a civil servant. Becoming a federal employee, she ultimately ascended to the role of Public Health Services Senior Regulations Analyst / Health Policy Analyst at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Though Lynn took immense pride in her work, she was truly devoted to her family and friends. Everyone who knew her spoke of her big heart and generosity. Her sense of style and gift of gab were also impossible to ignore. She enjoyed travel, fashion, dinner parties, attending the theater, and singing. She also had a soft spot for animals, particularly black and white cats who resembled her dear departed Stacy Cat.
Lynn’s memorial service will be held at Cunningham Turch Funeral Home in Alexandria, VA on Friday, April 4th, 2025 at 11am. She will be laid to rest with her parents at Old Mission Cemetery in Wichita, KS at a later date.
