Mary Jane Davis, age 93, passed away in her sleep on August 6, 2020. Jane was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. She attended George Washington High School and married the love of her life, Clarence (C.E.) Davis. C.E. worked for R.F. & P. Railroad until his death in 1977. Jane lived for over sixty years on East Bellefonte Avenue in Alexandria where she was a homemaker and active member of several charitable organizations. At the age of 60, she discovered her love of water aerobics at the Alexandria YMCA and decided to work there in the childcare division. Five years ago, she moved into the Manchester Lakes Senior Apartments where she made many friends and ran their weekly bingo games. One week ago, she moved to Sunrise of Springfield where she passed away.
Jane was the last living Charter Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #871 Auxiliary. She loved working with the Auxiliary planning fundraisers, and she especially loved organizing the Eagles Kitchen Band, a performing group who raised money for many charities. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #24.
Jane loved bingo, crab feasts, club activities, dancing — and especially all of the many dance families who lovingly called her their Nana.
Jane is survived by her daughter Robin Surdam (Brad), grandchildren Kimberly Denny (Rich), Kolbie Bowling, Bobby Surdam, and Brad Surdam (Becky), two great grandchildren – Tyson and Sutton Denny, and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and Eagle Auxiliary services will be held on Monday, August 10, at 12:00 noon at Mt. Comfort Cemetery. A Celebration of Life and Remembrance will be held in March pending COVID restrictions.
