In Loving Memory of Mary Jenkins
May 22, 1928 – December 20, 2023
Mary Jenkins, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2023.
Born on May 22, 1928, in Rappahannock County to Robert Hilton Corbin and Nellie Florence (Hawkins) Corbin, Mary’s life was marked by love, dedication, and a profound commitment to family. In 1948, Mary married the love of her life, Ivan E. Jenkins, and together they raised four daughters in Washington DC and the surrounding area.
A woman of ambition, Mary attended Strayer College, where she pursued studies in business. Before dedicating herself to the joys of motherhood, she worked as a secretary in Washington DC. Later in life, Mary found fulfillment in managing apartment buildings in the heart of the nation’s capital.
One of Mary’s greatest joys was her love for travel, a passion that enriched her life with countless memories and experiences. Whether exploring new destinations or revisiting cherished places, Mary approached each adventure with a sense of curiosity.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Cleveland, Robert, and Joseph, sister Helen Gore, her husband Ivan, daughter Brenda Gaye Jenkins, and son-in-law Dale Newville. She is survived by her sister Dorothy (Jimmy) Dillard, sister-in-law Evelyn Corbin, daughters
Catherine, Pamela, and Sheilah (Newville), grandchildren Nicole (Jeffrey) Rodgers, Nathan
(Tiffany) Newville, Grace Newville, and Amanda (Parker) Culver, as well as great-grandchildren
Jack Byron and Isla Jean Newville.
A service to honor Mary’s life will be held at Mount Comfort Cemetery Mausoleum on December 27, 2023 at 12:00 PM, preceded by a private family viewing at Cunningham Turch at 10:30 AM.
Mary’s legacy of love, warmth, and resilience will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace.
