Mary Joan Issertell O’Connor, 75, of Alexandria Va., died peacefully surrounded by her family at home, Nov. 22, 2006, after a short illness. Mrs. O’Connor was born Oct. 9, 1931, in Philadelphia, daughter of Justus and Alice Issertell. She was the widow of Rear Adm. William J. O’Connor, who died in 1991 after a marriage lasting 38 years. For the past 13 years Mrs. O’Connor worked at the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C. and was a Navy Log coordinator. She loved to travel, read, to do crossword puzzles, and always enjoyed a good party.Survivors include two daughters, Deirdre J. O’Connor, N.D. of Westerly, R.I., and Joan Karas, of Charlotte, N.C; three sons, Kevin M. O’Connor M.D., of Belmont, N.C.; Timothy W. O’Connor, of Alexandria, Va. and Capt. Michael J. O’Connor, USN, retired, of Blowing Rock, N.C.; and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by nine sisters and one brother. A funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 27 at 9 a.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home at 811 Cameron St, Alexandria, Va. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church at 310 South Royal St. in Alexandria.
