Eddie Watkins Sr. of Alexandria, VA was called home to be with our Lord on Monday, December 6, 2021. Eddie was born on February 16, 1947 in Martinsville, Virginia to Rhoda Gravely Hairston of Leatherwood, VA and James Watkins Jr. of Washington, DC. Eddie was educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools, graduating from Coolidge High School. In 1967, he joined the United States Army.
In 1971, Eddie came home on leave where he met and fell in love with Bernice “Elizabeth”. Eubanks of Alexandria, VA . On November 20, 1971 the two married and started a family.
On June 30, 1985 he was employed as a Sexton for Westminster Presbyterian Church, in Alexandria VA for over 30 years. He was part of the WMPC Family until his retirement June 2015.
After his retirement, Eddie stayed home and enjoyed watching all of his favorite television shows, Judge Mathis, Judge Joe Brown, Judge Judy, The Forensic Files, First 48, The National Geographic and Historical Channel. Anything having to do with history or criminal minds he loved. He loved spending time with his family and watching Sunday football . His favorite team was The Washington Redskins now known as the Washington Football Team. Sundays were big as he did not want to be disturbed while they were playing. He loved the sound of music. Listening to Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Commodores, Smokey Robinson, and the Temptations to name a few. He loved a good time and spending time with his family was everything to him especially as he got older.
As he has transitioned to his forever resting place, he leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 50 years: Bernice Watkins of Alexandria, VA: Five children: Lenora Glover (Marcus) of Woodbridge, VA; Eddie Watkins Jr. of Upper Marlboro, MD; Lisa Watkins of Alexandria, VA; Mario Watkins of Stafford, VA; and Steven Watkins of Woodbridge, VA. Seven Grandchildren: Jasmine Jones, Aaron Jenkins, Marcus Glover Jr., D’Andre Glover, Brittany Watkins, Marquise Smith, and Aliana Watkins. Five Great Grandchildren: Carmen Bathen, Aaliyah Glover, London Rodgers, Amari and Micah Jenkins. Siblings: Alvin Hairston of Bridgeport, CT; Amanda Gears of Eden NC; Rubie Valentine of Eden, NC; Johnnie Hairston of Eden, NC; and Lillie Mae Witcher of Oxon Hill, MD In-Law Siblings: Patricia Eubanks of Stafford, VA; Octavia Gray (Leonard) of Fort Washington, MD; Richard Eubanks of Alexandria, VA; Karen Eubanks of Woodbridge, VA; Pamela Mann of Lorton, VA; Wanda Eubanks of Alexandria, VA; April Eubanks of Alexandria, VA and a host of other relatives and friends. Eddie is preceded in death by his parents, Rhoda Gravely Hairston, and James Watkins Jr. Brothers: Shobert, Wilford, and William Hairston. Sisters: Nancy Hall, Virginia Hairston, and Bobbie Hunt. Sisters-in-law: Faye Blanks, and Shirley Eubanks, Brothers in Law: James Eubanks Jr., and Walter Mann Jr
