Remembrance

Lorine (Wawee) Bryan passed away on December 15, 2021 at the age of 89 with family by her side. She was born January 17, 1932 in Colón, Panamá to the union of Cecil and Iris Redman. She was one of six children: Ruth Anita Hudson (deceased), Florencia Delfina Gamble (deceased), George Redman (deceased), Gloria Redman, and Cecele Hall. She married her beloved husband Vernon Bryan on June 24, 1950 and raised seven children together: Roberto (Berto) Bryan, Clara Bryan, Silvestre (Papito) Bryan, Celmira (Cely) Hodges, Patricia (Pat) Bryan (deceased), Marcia Mayedo Sánchez, and Aurelio (Ore) Bryan.

Lorine, better known by her loved ones as Wawee, enjoyed cooking and spending quality time with those she loved. Many described her as a virtuous, strong, caring, loving, generous, supportive, classy and independent woman who took pride in her family and home. Lorine grew up in Colón, Panamá and raised her family with Vernon in their home. They moved to the United States and eventually purchased their first home in Dale City, VA.

Lorine worked for the United States Coast Guard Dining Facility in Alexandria, VA serving our heroes for more than a decade. A story that many shared was her dislike for driving. She stopped driving and began to be chauffeured like the Queen she was known to be.

Lorine’s children thought of her as an amazing mother who taught them lessons that helped guide them through life. Her children described her as a strict mother who only wanted the best for them. She was always there to share important life events like the birth of her grandchildren, the purchase of homes, birthdays, high school and college graduations. Many grandchildren have admitted that Lorine’s potato salad was better than their parents but would be too scared to admit it to them.

Lorine enjoyed listening and dancing to salsa and Caribbean music. We can all recall her love for music and dancing at many family functions hosted by her and Vernon. Their love for each other was the glue that held the family together.

Lorine was the best wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, friend and kindest person you could ever meet. We come together today not to mourn Lorine, but to celebrate her life with us and the love she shared. She is survived by her 2 sister’s Gloria and Cecele; son’s Roberto (Jestina), Silvestre (Amelia) and Aurelio; her daughters Clara, Celmira, and Marcia; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and other family members and friends.

Lorine (Wawee) Bryan will be laid to rest at Mount Comfort Cemetery (6600 South Kings Highway, Alexandria, VA), alongside her husband Vernon Bryan, and her mother Iris Redman.
