Natanael Gamez Rodriguez

It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my beloved father, Natanael Gamez Rodriguez, who left us on June 16, 2024, at the age of 93. In his final moments, he was surrounded by his loving family and passed away peacefully after a beautiful, long life filled with love and joy.

Natanael was the father of Alma, Lisa, and Veronica, father-in-law of Cory Green and Tom Hewlett, and cherished grandfather of Daniel Mercado, Soledad and Tess Green, and Josephine Hewlett.

Natanael was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on January 8, 1931, to Gregorio and Augustina Rodriguez and had one sibling, a sister named Angélica. He met his wife of 63 years, Bertha, in San Antonio, Texas, and they were married on May 4, 1957. Together, they raised their three daughters, Alma, Lisa, and Veronica, in Texas. They lived in San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas, Texas, as well as Aiea, Hawaii, before eventually moving to Fairfax, Virginia.

Natanael was humorous and wise and had a lifelong passion for handiwork, gardening, and bird watching. Whether he was executing an intricate repair at his rolltop desk or spicing the brisket for grill night, you could always count on “Abuelito’s” perfect touch. He adored his four grandchildren and was an enormous influence on each of their lives.

Natanael is survived by three loving daughters, Alma Green of Fairfax, Virginia, Lisa Mercado of Houston, Texas, and Veronica Hewlett of Ashburn, Virginia; and his four grandchildren, Daniel Mercado, Soledad and Tess Green, and Josephine Hewlett. He was predeceased by his wife Bertha, his sister Angélica, and his best friend, our Papillon, Snoopy.

Before he passed, Natanael asked for a private family gathering to celebrate his life. In respect to his wishes, there will be a small, intimate family service to honor him and Bertha.

Natanael Gamez Rodriguez
