Sylvia Lynete Lloyd, affectionately known as "Lynete" by her family and friends, was born on February 5, 1956, in Alexandria, Virginia, to Yvonne Lovingood-Lucas and William Roseboro Sr. Raised on the iconic 800 block of Alfred Street, Lynete was a proud native of Alexandria, where her childhood was steeped in love, family, and the close bonds of a tight-knit community. On September 7, 2024, surrounded by an abundance of love, Lynete transitioned from this earthly life, leaving behind a legacy of strength, beauty, and grace. 

Lynete’s educational journey began at Saint Joseph Catholic School, where she attended through the 7th grade. She later continued her studies at Parker Gray and George Washington Middle School, before graduating from T.C. Williams High School in 1974. During her high school years, Lynete embraced her love for cheerleading and built memories that would last a lifetime. Her natural talents extended beyond academics—she was a gifted artist with a passion for drawing and painting, finding joy and fulfillment in every stroke of the brush. 

From an early age, Lynete was drawn to fashion, cultivating a timeless style that reflected her unique personality. Whether she was browsing the shops in Old Town Alexandria or accessorizing with her signature statement jewelry, Lynete exuded a confidence and elegance that made her unforgettable. Known as a true “girls' girl,” her warmth and charisma made her beloved by all who crossed her path. Her cousins fondly remember her as one of the few girls in Alexandria to own a pair of coveted white Dutch clog shoes, which became a symbol of her trendsetting ways. Of course, her signature afro was an iconic part of her identity that she wore proudly. 

In pursuit of higher education, Lynete moved to Philadelphia, where she attended the Berean Institute and welcomed her son, Waziyr Lucas in 1981. Later, Lynete returned to her beloved hometown of Alexandria, where she married Reginald Lloyd and, in 1988, welcomed her daughter, Tasia Robinson, completing her family. 

A woman of immense strength and unwavering resilience, Lynete had an open heart and home, welcoming everyone who came into her life with warmth and kindness. Her quick wit, sharp humor, and lively spirit made her the vibrant soul everyone adored. Famously bossy in the most loving way, Lynete’s daughter, Tasia, would often joke that her mother was always "the boss." 

A devoted grandmother, Lynete played an instrumental role in helping Tasia raise her grandson, Ziyon Jones, who will forever hold the title of “Grandma’s baby.” Her granddaughter, Israel Lucas Gaskin, was her pride and joy, an intelligent and compassionate young woman who never hesitated to drop everything to assist her beloved grandmother. 

Family was the heartbeat of Lynete’s life. Her sister, Melanie Glynn, was her unwavering rock, always standing by her side, while her niece, Syrena Glynn, was her fierce protector. But perhaps her greatest love was her son, Waziyr, who held an unmatched place in her heart. 

Lynete was many things: a devoted mother, a fiercely protective sister, a trusted friend, a cherished aunt, and a cousin whose relationships were more like friendships. Her home was always filled with love, and her smile brought comfort and joy to those lucky enough to know her. Lynete’s sense of style was legendary—her closet was a family treasure, with relatives constantly borrowing from her collection. Her vibrant energy, infectious laughter, and love for dancing made her the life of every party. Lynete embraced life on her own terms, living with unapologetic joy and grace. 

Sylvia "Lynete" Lloyd is survived by her beloved son, Waziyr Lucas; her cherished daughter, Tasia Robinson; her granddaughter, Israel Lucas Gaskin; her grandson, Ziyon Jones; her devoted sister, Melanie Glynn; and her loving niece, Syrena Glynn. She also leaves behind her great-niece, Paige Murchison, whom Lynete adored and proudly boasted about for her intelligence and maturity beyond her years. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Yvonne Lovingood-Lucas and William Roseboro Sr., as well as her dear brother, William Jerome Roseboro Jr. 

Lynete was a true angel on earth, whose radiant presence touched the lives of many. While we will miss her tremendously, we choose to celebrate the extraordinary life she lived—the love she gave so freely, and the beauty she left behind. Her legacy of love, laughter, and style will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her.
