Tavish Shantal Thigpen, son of Rosa Mae Anderson and Jeffery Lee Thigpen, passed away on July 19th, 2023 after a protracted battle with colorectal cancer. He was 32.
It is rare to meet a person as pure, as full of joy, and as truly kind as Tavish Thigpen. He was good in all senses of the word. Those who love him do so with fervor, not simply in the unyielding agony of his absence but because of the unquestionable warmth that was his presence. Above and before all else, Tavish loved. He was always patient, always kind, always forgiving. He protected. He hoped. He trusted. He persevered. He loved.
Tavish Thigpen was born on a Naval base in Keflavic, Iceland. He was born in much pomp and circumstance, as he was one of the few sets of twins ever born on base. In fact, his very name means “twin” in Icelandic.
To say that his bond with his twin, Terrell, was profound is an understatement. They grew up together in the flat plains of Iceland, in the greenery of Connecticut, the endless countryside of North Carolina, and the immense rolling hills of Virginia. Throughout childhood, Tavish loved creating intricate stories with Terrell, drawing comics, discussing animation, and playing videogames with his friends. He and Terrell got lost in the woods together, caught frogs, and made fast friends in whatever neighborhood in which they found themselves.
As he grew older, Tavish developed a deep love and appreciation for cooking food, particularly Italian dishes. He spent much of his life perfecting recipes as a cook for several restaurants including Carrabba’s, Ned Devine’s, and Stone’s Cove. As he continued to cook, he developed a knack for business through his studies at Strayer University. He dreamed of one day opening a restaurant alongside his twin brother.
Tavish is survived by his twin brother, Terrell S. Thigpen, his older sister Lashonda S. Thigpen, his younger sister Jasmine Thigpen, his mother Rosa Mae Anderson, and his father Jeffery Lee Thigpen.
