Vernell Tolson

Vernell Tolson was born to her parents, Arminius “Jack” Tolson, Sr. and Thelma L. Tolson on August 25, 1945 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. Vernell was educated in the Westmoreland County School System.

In their youth, Vernell and her siblings were baptized at Christ Church where they attended weekly service. As a young adult, Vernell relocated to As a young adult, Vernell relocated to the Washington Metropolitan Area with her sisters Lucille and Marie, they settled in Alexandria, Virginia.

During her life, Vernell worked in the service industry, primarily as a domestic worker, oftentimes called essential worker. She worked until her health began to fail approximately 15 years ago.

Vernell had two children, Robert and Franklyn Tolson. She often talked about her children, grandchildren and nephews. She enjoyed being with family. If Vernell was around, she would be the life of the party. Vernell loved dancing, especially to the music of her favorite R & B group, Frankie Beverly and Maze. She would listen to their music quite often. She was so excited when she saw Maze perform live in concert that she cried. In addition to listening to music to relax, Vernell loved solving crossword puzzles and looking at her favorite daytime Soap Opera, The Young and the Restless.

On Friday, February 23, 2024, Vernell completed her race. She transitioned from this life, but she will live on in our hearts. Many loved ones preceded Vernell in death, including her parents, siblings Marie Dixon, Arminius Tolson, Jr. and Walter Lewis; son Robert M. Tolson; and nephews Earl and Benjamin Dixon.

She leaves to cherish her memories son Franklyn (Yvonne) Tolson, grandchildren, Yolanda Tolson, Danielle Tolson-BouDreaux, Robert Tolson II and (Shannon Blanchard); great grandchildren Theodore Ingram IV, Tristan Melton, Jayla Cuyler, Master Cori BouDreaux, Camiya BouDreaux and Robert Tolson III; siblings Lucille Tolson and brother Benjamin Preston Tolson; nephews Harry Dixon (Stephanie), Ralph Dixon (Carol) and Michael Tolson along with a host of great nieces and nephews and friends.
