Important things are accomplished in every life, and deserve to be acknowledged. One way we help acknowledge the sacrifices and contributions of those who served in the military, or as public servants, is with our Heroes Rotunda.
In this place, those who risked and sacrificed to serve others are honored. They may “lay in state,” between the flags of this great nation they served, whether “casketed” or “inurned.” For military personnel, if they are to be laid to rest at Arlington, they will typically lay in state prior to “going in procession” to the cemetery. While this typically occurs several months after the funeral due to Arlington wait times, it is a special send off that families never forget.
